Out Of This World (short story)

(There's a link to a short story I wrote in this post. If you don't want to read all the way to the end, here it is right here, you lazy person you.)

I was digging through an old drive today and I ran across the source files for an ill-fated project I tried and failed at back in 2004 called Mentally Incontinent Monthly. The idea behind MIM was to put 3 or 4 stories into a little magazine format, print it, and mail it to people who sent me 2 bucks an issue.

I got, oh... 2 issues out - #0 and #1. And they were about 3 months overdue, both of them. It was an absolute disaster. I eventually ended up giving people credit for their subscription purchases (and I've heard from a few folks they never got theirs - so if you subscribed and I owe you money, email me, PLEASE).

Anyway, one of the things that came out of the project was my branching into goofy science fiction, fantasy and other forms of writing. One of the stories was "Out of this World," which was written for a very early reader of mine as a birthday present for his girlfriend at the time. I thought it might be fun to throw it into a PDF and share it with you, so here you go.

Re-reading this now... I think I might have been under the influence of equal parts Ny-Quil and Douglas Adams while writing this story. I'm kind of amused by it, because I actually don't remember writing it. I remember thinking about it... And I remember some parts of typing it, but for the most part, I don't really remember the actual writing of this story.

Oh well. Enjoy it anyway.
